SBA Loans Impacted by Government Shutdown


Although most of the programs focused on small businesses’ access to federal contracts are shut down, the Office of Government Contracting and Business Development will retain four employees to ensure that the small business contracting programs continue to operate for any agencies not impacted by the shutdown.

Small businesses counting on funding from an SBA loan may be among the casualties of the government shutdown. According to the Obama Administration’s recently released “Plan for Operating in the Event of a Lapse in Appropriations,” more than 30 SBA programs will close. These include 7(a) Loan Guarantees, 8(a) Business Development, Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting and the Small Business Innovation Research.
