Upfront: High-Dollar Outsourcing Deals Proliferate

Despite a backlash against outsourcers following several high-profile contract failures, investment in major IT and business-process outsourcing initiatives increased dramatically from 2002 to 2003. The number of deals valued at more than $100 million rose 49 percent, and the number worth more than $1 billion doubled. And $1.66 billion of these contracts included an offshoring element, representing a whopping 890 percent increase over 2002.
