The underlying logic is that no country defaults on its domestic bonds if it retains the right to set the printing presses in motion. Yet it seems counter-intuitive that bond markets, with their traditional fear of inflation, should punish a country for not being able to debase its currency.
Agressive Tax Planning is Not Illegal
Aggressive tax planning is simply a smart and savvy business decision and what business doesn't want to increase their bottom line? As long as a corporation's tax strategy is legal and doesn't violate any laws or federal regulations then I don't think it should be an issue. There is a big difference between making intelligent financial decisions versus blatant non-compliance.
In the case of SABMiller, they simply have the know-how and the money to afford tax lawyers to help them minimize taxes; it might rub some people the wrong way but it's not illegal, it's just big business.
