The Term "Cloud" as used in Business
There's a lot of misconception about the word "Cloud" as it is used in the Business world. Cloud computing is just a way of accessing data whereby companies don't have to allocate a large enough capital for servers, mainframes, and server rooms. Instead, information, data, and software will be stored on other servers on the web or outside of the company (or in the cloud so to speak) thus avoiding a large initial captial expenditure while providing savings since you'll be paying for spent resources as you go (as opposed to a fixed cost). What the article is really talking about is how MarkMaster transitioned from being a pure brick-and-mortar company to a successful online seller that uses cloud technology. I think the message here is that they wouldn't have been able to go online and grow at their current rate if not for cloud technology.
